Denim Upcycling Workshop

Saturdays 10am – 5 pm. (1hr lunch break 12pm - 1pm)

Wild & Wayward Designs Studio, Willowbank, Qld.

A creative workshop in re-purposing old garments and textiles, with a focus on upcycling jeans.

Upcycling isn’t just about mend and make do, it can be about creating something new and unique. Explore your creativity and learn my favourite ways to breathe life into old worn out jeans and make them useful again.

We’ll discuss breakdown methods. Uses for various parts of the jeans. Tips for making a project successful. Visible mending and hand stitching. The plan is for you break for lunch to go away with ideas and inspiration to think about for the afternoon where we’ll tackle your individual project. You’ll plan out your project and I’ll help you to make it happen.

If there’s anything specific you’d like to learn let me know beforehand, as early as possible, and I try my hardest to plan it into the lesson.

Skill level: Open to beginners upwards – but we highly recommend having basic sewing skills (i.e. be able to thread up a machine and sew a straight line without supervision) before you get started. Feel free to enrol in Sewing machine Basics Workshop beforehand, in order to maximise your time in this class.

I understand not everyone has a regular schedule or are free Saturdays or Tuesdays so I do offer one-on-one sewing lessons at more flexible times to suit you at $40 p/hr. Feel free to contact me for more information.

You Need: Notebook and pen, jeans, fabric or old garments (There will be a selection of fabrics you can use at the workshop)

Note: For lunch the Willowbank Cafe is a short 2min walk across the park or the Yamato Shopping Village is a 7-10 min drive away or your welcome to bring you own lunch and eat on our deck.
